Any idea why Anthony Mann, who had been credited with some of the best noirs (including "T-Men" and "Railroaded" the year before) was involved without credit on this? (I don't imagine the DVD is information-rich!) No, but I do know he was fired from Spartacus by Kirk Douglas so he may have had some difficulties working w/ Hollywood. Nonetheless, Mann did El Cid and Fall of the Roman Empire so is in my Hall of Fame.
Hollywood lost a fine actor when Basehart moved to TV.

I think that I probably saw this movie on commercial-ridden tv as a child. As an adolescent, I watched Basehart as . Adm. Harriman Nelson in "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (1964-68) and later discovered "La Strada" with him and Anthony Quinn and the great Giulietta Masina.
