Kid N' Play star in this hilarious comedy about late night party at Play's house. Conflict happens when Kid is grounded and faces moral choices, which his dad has instilled in him. This could have easily have been dumbed down for a boring teen comedy, but it's written with intelligence and humor, like the father and son moments, and the Tisha Campbell/Kid scenes.
It has its fare share of slapstick but it really works, and "Dragon Breath" Martin Lawrence is also very funny in it, as well as the scenes involving the cops and Robin Harris; I liked the way they showed the brutality of the cops too.
OK, now, I love the music in this movie, but it may be dated for those who've not grown up in the eighties; you'll like it if you're into old school hip hop. I always thought of Kid N' Play as clean rappers, so it's funny--for me--to see them in a movie that was riddled with cussing.
My favorite thing about the whole movie is how it shows black culture in the rich and poor classes. It shows the projects, the suburbs, and the wealthy communities. I think it was an important film for black comedy at the time, but now it's great for black history.
