Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
Usually when you hear mention of the movie "Howard the Duck", the word "dud", "flop", or "failure" are in the same sentence. I will admit that this is no Academy Award winning movie, however I will tell you that this movie is one of the most creative, funny, and truly wonderful movies of the 1980's. From the director of Star Wars and Indiana Jone comes the story of a walking, talking duck who finds himself accidentally beamed far far away from his home, landing on Earth. Howard the Duck's biggest nightmare has become a reality, as he quickly finds out what a crazy world Earth is, and has him wishing that he was back home in his own nest. However, Howard's quick wit and his never-say-die attitude eventually win the hearts of everyone, getting into some wacky situations and meeting some zany characters along the way. Leah Thompson(Back to the Future), Jeffrey Jones(Ferris Bueller's Day Off), and Tim Robbins(Arlington Rd, Nothing to Lose) help make this one of the craziest movies of the decade.
On a side note, there are a lot of people out there who are too eager to jump up and label this movie a complete disaster. People have dubbed this movie one of the biggest box office disasters of all time. People saw the name George Lucas on it and were expecting a movie that was of Star Wars caliber. Look people, If George Lucas wanted to make this movie some outstanding masterpiece, he would not have used a talking duck from another planet. He just wanted to make a movie for people to enjoy without having to think too much. That was the best thing about most movies from the 1980's, they were creative, original, and they could be enjoyed by kids and adults alike. This movie has good laughs, some decent special effects, and is an all-around great movie.
