The next time you see fog...run for cover!

Pros:Very creative! I think there is a psychological metaphor in this movie!
Cons:The action doesn't start until the man is only an inch tall.
The Bottom Line: These were wonderful special effects considering that it was filmed in 1957. I don't think a re-make and/or colorizing this would hurt.

Plot Details: This opinion reveals everything about the movie's plot.

This movie is a classic! The film starts when a man named Scott and his wife Louise are cruising on a boat while on vacation. The man is just lying around outside while the wife goes inside to get some beers. There is a fog out there, in which the man becomes exposed to it. The weirdest part is that it being such a bright sunny day out, where did the fog come from? That is what makes the fog spooky.

After he comes back from vacation, he notices that his weight and height are starting to drop. The doctor does point out to Scott that "It is normal to weigh less in the morning and to be a little shorter as the day goes, it's natural fluctuation". But as the change becomes more noticeable, they take him to some scientists and "wait" for a cure. The classic scene between Scott and his wife Louise are when she promises to be with him forever as long as the ring is still on his finger. As he shrinks, the ring fell off his hand (uh-oh:)

while he is getting harassed when he reaches a child's height; he meets a midget lady at a diner (he's not cheating on his wife). She tells him that she knows what he is going through, by being exploited by the media.

Next he is small enough to fit in a dollhouse. His wife goes out and the cat sneaks in. This is where the action starts! He hears scratching at the front door of the dollhouse and becomes curious. I think this was stupid of him!! If you were an inch tall, stuck in a dollhouse and you knew there was a cat in the house wouldn't you run upstairs and hide in a small enough area that the cat couldn't reach?

But like Hollywood he outsmarts the cat and gets stuck down in the basement (unfortunate because now everyone thinks the cat made Purina Cat Chow out of him). The basement and fighting off spiders were as life dangerous for him as it would be to a normal sized human trying to survive in a jungle.

At the end of the movie he realizes that he is getting small enough that would make a doll look tall. The last and famous line of the movie is Scott narrating "To God I still mean something, because to God there is no zero"
