Fredric March at his best (Reply to this comment)
by ispeakup
This film puts March on a pedestal for me. He is an underrated actor that needs to be studied by any aspiring actor. His versatility is superb and he never over does it -- except in this film. But it makes sense because of the message Kramer is trying to get across. "The Bad Guy" can't be human, he has to be a buffoon, in order for his logic to be made unacceptable. I thoroughly enjoyed March in this film when I saw it just this year on television.

He's a brilliant man... thanks for reminding me of that very fact...

Thanks, old buddy! Dang! Don't you hate it when you realize most of the good actors are already dead? We need some new Waynes, Flynns, Bogarts, Colmans, Marvins, Colberts, Bergmans, and Hayworths. The current crop of actors will hardly be remembered, I'm afraid.

The more recent Scott-Lemmon version has the same viewpoint, including the poignancy of the populist old lion prosecuting dissent (so far from decrying crucifying American farmers on the cross of the gold standard).

Here I always thought it was William Jennings Bryant. Sounds strange without the t. I should finally see this since I like Tracy so much. Great job as usual!

Another great review George. There's also a fairly recent version of Inherit the Wind that's pretty good with the late Jack Lemmon and the late George C. Scott, check it out. Excellent review

If I had the energy to read the other 9, I would award the coveted MH here, and I may be back to do just that. I wish more of our new reviewers would look at your reviews as examples of how it is done! Jude
