Trick or Treat Smell My Feet
Written: Sep 28 '01
Pros:Wonderfully animated video, fun for all ages
Cons:It's the Peanuts can there be one.
The Bottom Line: A wonderful video the choices epinions gives you for the suitability of children is strange this video is great for children of all ages including this 34 year old.
Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
Well, this is my 50th review what to do to celebrate, I know for some you may say big deal, to me it is. When I first happened onto Epinions I really didn’t think I would enjoy it as much as I have. I thought it would be work, it may take time but it’s fun so it’s not really work to me. All right enough of that nonsense what did I decide to do for my 50th review write in a category I haven’t tried yet. Therefore all constructive criticism is welcome. What am I reviewing It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown A wonderful Peanuts video.
In the year 2000 the world lost a great cartoon writer by the name of Charles Shulz the creator of Peanuts, and the writer of this 30-minute classic. I will attempt to give this wonderful animator and the movie it’s due. We rented this movie since in a month it will be Halloween; we always start preparing ahead of time for holidays with movies about them. I think every child from 2 years old to 105 years old loves Peanuts. This video is enjoyed by are whole family my five year old son, his adult brother and sister, Mom (Ahlstromomy), and me.
What’s the video about well I’m going to tell you
The video starts out with a musical number Lucy and Linus are walking to a pumpkin patch to pick out a pumpkin. There are no words at this point, but the facial expressions of Linus and Lucy tell a wonderful picture. They bring a large pumpkin, which Linus ends up rolling home with to their house. They set it up and Lucy starts to carve. At this point someone says something Linus yells “ I didn’t know you where going to kill it”
Next scene is Snoopy blowing a leaf onto a pile of leaves that Charlie is raking up. Break away to Linus eating on of the biggest lollipops I have seen. Linus spot’s the huge pile of leaves he gets a running start and jumps into the leaves. The leaves stick all over his face and his lollipop. Charlie growls and gives and angry face. Enter Lucy with a football; we all know what’s coming now the traditional football kick by Charlie Brown. Lucy gives him a signed document stating she will not pull the football away. Charlie always the naïve chump falls for it. When he runs to kick the ball and Lucy pulls it away as always she says ”Funny thing this paper isn’t notarized”
Next scene we find Linus writing to the Great Pumpkin. Everybody laughs and ridicules him for believing in the Great Pumpkin. When he’s done with the letter he and Lucy walk to the mailbox with Lucy harassing him the whole way, she tells him he is too short to mail the letter and she’s not going to help him. He uses his trusty blanket to open the mailbox and let’s the wind blows the letter into it. While at the mailbox Charlie comes by all excited because he has been invited to a Halloween party. Lucy says he must have been put on the wrong list. They’re where two lists, one of people to invite and one of people not to invite. He must have gotten on the wrong list. Poor Charlie they are always picking on him. I think that’s why most of us love Charlie Brown we really can relate.
Now they are getting ready to trick or treat. Lucy is dressed as a witch and the majority of the other kids are ghosts. Charlie Brown had a mishap with the scissors and cut many holes for his eyes in the sheet. They stop by the pumpkin patch to tease Linus about staying there and missing the fun. Linus explains to everybody about how the Great Pumpkin looks for the most sincere pumpkin patch. He convinces Sally (for those who don’t know Sally has a huge crush on Linus) to stay and wait for the Great Pumpkin with him.
Now we see the other kid’s trick or treating and comparing their loot. Of course, Charlie doesn’t have much luck all he he get’s are rocks. Break away to the WWI flying ace (Snoopy) on his mission to shoot down the Red Baron. This is another traditional section of Charlie Brown videos.
Time for the party, the kid’s stop by the pumpkin patch to give Linus and Sally one more chance to join them. Sally sticks up for Linus and tells them the Great Pumpkin will come. At the party they use Charlie as a model to carve out the pumpkin. Shroeder plays the piano while snoopy does some dancing and theatrics. My personal opinion is that these are some of the best parts of the video. The faces and animation are superb.
Snoopy leaves the party and heads toward the pumpkin patch. Linus and Sally hear Snoopy and think it’s the Great Pumpkin. Linus faints and when he wakes up Sally goes ballistic on him for making her miss all the fun.
The next scene has Lucy waking up in the middle of the night and going and bringing Linus home to bed. The video ends with Charlie and Linus talking. Linus assures Charlie the Great Pumpkin will come next year.
Notes
Bill Melendez directed the video and as I think you realize I feel it was a superb directing job. The characters voices are as follows:
Charlie: Peter Rubelles
Lucy: Sally Drye
Linus: Charles She
Sally: Cathy Steinberg
The video comes in VHS, DVD, and Laser Disc formats. I noticed that at CD Universe you can buy the VHS format for $10.75. If you want to own it we prefer to just rent it or check out of the library every year around Halloween.
Conclusion
I highly recommend this video for children of all ages. The animation is great and what can you say about how it was written Charles Shulz was a master of his trade. So sit back with your bag of goodies and get ready to laugh.
As always thanks for reading. I hope this review was fun and informative for you.
Keep praying and treat your neighbor well stay united.
