An East Coast resort, Amity Island, is being terrorized by a 25-foot Great White shark. Although Mayor Larry Vaughn tries to deny the whole thing because he doesn't to scare the tourists away from the "summer dollars" that he needs. Soon, everyone in town finds out that there is a shark still on the loose and won't stop, so Police Chief Martin Brody, marine biologist Matt Hooper, and the old fisherman Quint go after the shark, and also in a desperate fight for their lives.
A wonderful, unforgettable movie delivered by Steven Spielberg which kept the audience out of the water for a long time. Based on Peter Benchley's No. 1 Best Selling novel, Steven Spielberg makes some changes to the movie, but good changes.
One of Steven Spielberg's greatest accomplishments, along with Schiendler's List, Saving Private Ryan, Jurassic Park, and Back to the Future(executive producer). Of course, this was Steven Spielberg's first great film.
The climax scenes of the movie were great. The beginning was very exciting and the most memorable scene in a film in Universal history, along with "Psycho" for the shower scene with Janet Leigh. The ending was great and very satisfying.
This doesn't turn out to be just a Horror movie, but also and Adventure and a thrill at the end.
The acting was great. Richard Dreyfuss and Robert Shaw were the best of the whole movie, especially in the "U.S.S. Indianapolis" scene. Roy Scheider also delivers a good performance, as does Lorraine Gary and Murray Hamilton.
The musical score was masterfully composed by John Williams. Don't get me wrong, but he is one of the greatest motion picture composers of all time, and he has won tons of awards for them.
Jaws released in 1975, the same year as "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", which won the Oscar, Best Picture of the Year. Jaws was nominated for Best Picture, but lost, along With Barry Lyndon, Dog Day Afternoon, and Nashville. However, "Jaws" did win Best Musical Score, Best Film Editing, and Best Sound.
The only bad thing about this film was how bad the sequels were. "Jaws 2" was decent, but "Jaws 3" and Jaws: The Revenge" were very inferior and horrible. It's a good thing that the series ended, although it should have just stopped at "Jaws 2".
Now, please, get into the water!
