How this movie is considered horror is beyond me. From what i gather most people buy this movie because it was directed by Spielberg and therefore must be great. I found this movie to be very dull and predictable. Since I am a huge fan of horror movies and I seek them out arduously I was extremely let down by this film.
I suppose the story is a bit unique. Killer shark terrorizes sea town. But didn't Godzilla do the same thing 40 years prior. Same situation, different monster. Sure the movie made me squeemish to look at when the blood was splashing and people were screaming but any movie can do that.
The characters were actually pretty interesting in this movie. Roy Scheider being the most boring but he was intense enough to keep you interested. Richard Dreyfuss as a not so serious oceanic scientist provided laughs. And the crazy old sea captain played by Robert Shaw was a great addition to the movie and made it interesting in my eyes.
I guess you should watch this movie once just to say you saw it but don't waste your money buying it. And please don't watch the sequels. You'll be very sorry you did.
