There's only one thing wrong with this movie, it's too long, and in places boring, but then it's about a recluse, a mountain man, so what do we expect.
Robert Redford does a better job by Jeremiah Johnson than Costner ever did with "Dances with Wolves". Both of these men seem into their selves a lot and a little winded, but "Jeremiah Johnson" is an interesting flick and not inundated with political issue.
It's the simple story of a disillusioned man who finds solace and peace in the high mountains. He becomes the relentless mountain man. It's probably where "Grizzly Adams" came from.
Jeremiah fights Indians, cold, and struggles with all the elements but still manages to find the kind of life he seeks.
Perhaps it's an escapist movie, but I feel like the screenwriters came closer to defining the character of a real mountain man in this one than any other.
An interesting introspection of this life and a film worth of the entire family to watch. Not a bad western if you can stick it out.
