Yup, Queen. Who did much better with the music to the first Highlander movie.

media reviewers, by and large, haven’t a clue when it comes to fantasy.

AMEN!

You're right that there's little corniness here. Instead there's a delightful awe and whimsy--the whole film is very much in the fairy tale vein of fantasy (which critics are even farther from understanding). Note the sense of danger that accompanies the fairy Gump.

I, too, love this movie. Although Lily's faking was a bit too transparent, the entire sequence where Curry tries to seduce her is exceptional. Great dialogue, and acting (on Curry's part). Of course, I'm a sucker for black lipstick.

Nicely done.

Funny you should mention Flash Gordon... I saw a bit of it (after all these years-- I'd seen it in the theater as a kid) on cable today. The cheesy music" Queen. Actually, I think it's hard to "muck up" the film; it is so incredibly camp!

Anyway-- dandy review, good sir.
