If you are a movie buff, then you will instantly recognize this movie. However, if you have never heard of it, then I highly recommend it because it has a very enjoyable plot, the acting is quite superb and the message is subtle yet poignant.
I love Ryan O'neal. I first saw him in What's Up, Doc? and I was very impressed with his acting ability. And so when I found out that he was in this film, I rushed to library to see it. The other plus was that his daughter, Tatum, also acted the major lead for this film. Since there was the underlying question as to whether the characters were of blood relation, it was kind of interesting to see how the O'Neals played off one another.
One of my favorite scenes in this film was when Addie demands Mose from the $200 in the restaurant. Another is when Addie lights up a cigarette in the motel room. It was so shocking to see a 9 year old smoke that I could hardly believe my eyes. She did it so naturally too, and that's a sign of very good acting.
This film is suitable for anyone who enjoys comedy. I don't think it can be restricted to a particular class of people because it has a message for everyone: people need to be with other people and it doesn't matter if they are related or not, they just need to be together. I should also mention that Tatum O'Neal won an oscar for her acting efforts and it was well deserved.
Other films to suggest: What's Up, Doc?, Cactus Flower, The Fortune Cookie, Charade, The Sting, Play it Again, Sam, Take the Money and Run.
