. . . gives me the shivers . . . mainly due to that scene of the kids jumping in the water.

i kind of expected you to mention another one that you'd written about: The Bicycle Thief . . . both young protagonists see their fathers' total humiliation. You're right, von Sydow was Lasse in this one.
