If you like John Waters, but sometimes cringe at some of his more hard-core films, you'll enjoy this tale of a suburban Baltimore housewife who gets treated shabbily by everyone in her life. Until,that is, a dashing man enters her life and sweeps her off her feet! But, alas, he, too, dumps on her. Fear not, there is a happy ending! Filled with great music (including the title theme), great lines (Francine, you're an alcoholic!), and abundant overacting, this movie is hilarious. Divine is almost convincing as housewife Francine Fishpaw, and her friend Cuddles is a disconcerting mix of repulsiveness and cutesiness. The other characters are also funny-yet-creepy, including her porno movie house-owning husband, her slutty daughter, her foot-fetish-sex-offender son, and her manipulative mother. Not quite as raunchy as Pink Flamingos, but less mainstream than Hair Spray or Pecker. I highly recommend it.
