Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
Anyone who is a fan of Audrey Hepburn, and even anyone who isn't, will love this beautiful classic film co-starring the gorgeous Gregory Peck.
Shown in black and white just adds to the wonderful old fashioned style movie ranked as one of the most enjoyable romantic comedies of all time.
The basic plot is that Audrey Hepburn portrays a modern day princess who rebels against her obligations and runs away to explore Rome on her own. She, on her journeys, meets Gregory Peck, an American newspaperman who is seeking an exclusive story to prevent himself from getting the sack. Gregory Peck feigns ignorance to the true identity of the princess ad follows her around the city to get the biggest scoop of the year. Along with his hilariously memorable cameraman pal Eddie Albert. However, his plan falters as he soon realises that they have fallen in love.
My particularly favourite part in the film is one where Peck takes Hepburn to a famous site in Rome where a dragons head is built into a wall. There is a saying which states that if you put your hand into the mouth of the dragon and you are a liar, it will bite your hand straight off. During the filming of the scene, Peck pretended his hand was being bitten off and scared Hepburn out of her wits. Both end up laughing hysterically when Peck admits it was a prank. Instead of re-shooting the scene, director William Wyler kept it in the film because it was so funny. Everytime I watch that part of the movie i cannot help but laugh out loud.
Audrey Hepburn won an oscar for her role in this film and it truly isn't hard to see why.
