'Thirty-something"... (Reply to this comment)

... ended up disappointing me... yea, it is more intendedly comedic than Yojimbo, but I thought the former had its funny moments also, and ends up being far far better than this one... heck, certain plot elements are just rehashed from Yojimbo... ahhh, I'm not gonna go on... this and Kagemusha would've left me thinking that Kurosawa has promise if I hadn't seen some of what I think of as his better work before these...
... one thing Sanjuro does do well is use a nice balance of music to complement the situations... Kurosawa's always had royal, majestic scores for the major moments, but, as you mentioned, this nicely integrates light-hearted music for the comic scenes...
... ah well, it had a bunch of good moments that I did enjoy... that final showdown is neat! Ugh!
... nice job Lisa! ...t-žoo

Excellent job! I think Sanjuro is actually one of Kurosawa's better films, and Kurosawa has made some of the finest films ever! I actually wrote a paper on Sanjuro to try and get me into the USC film school over 15 years ago. I'm glad to see that there are more than just a few people honoring this film by well written epinions!
