The Shootist is the farewell to one of our heros. John Wayne says goodbye to all of his fans throughout the world with a sad portrayal of a dying gunslinger. Wayne's character in an effort to tie up all of his loose ends asks for his remaining enemies to meet him at a saloon. He kills the three desperados but a bartender seeking fame guns him down from behind, like Jesse James, Wayne, survives his enemies to be killed by a nobody.
It is a gloomy farewell and to be honest I was a bit dissappointed with the story. I love John Wayne but I felt that the Shootist dragged a little and was depressing. I would recommend this movie though because it eerily ties John Wayne's life and career up in one film. Sad but interesting.
