Pros:A genuine discovery into supernatural tendencies if you believe . . .
Cons:slightly cheesy and more grotesque in graphics than in common sense
The Bottom Line: Not your better Stephen King adaptations but if you want something out there, this is one to see at least once.

Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.

A supernatural creature is the focal point to something right out of an Anne Rice vampire novel that has you holding your neck warding off a bite-wound--but this novella character mutates from human to beast in a 'howl at the moon' kind of moment.

This creature of a well-documented legend is born out of the mind of horrific terrific horror writer Stephen King. The scope is based on the novella titled Cycle of the Werewolf, Silver Bullet (1985). Made into a movie without the direction of its author, therefore not being any better of an adaptation because he did direct Maximum Overdrive and that was far worse than this, this movie bored me until I gave the idea a little creedence, and I mean a little.

With or without direction in movie-making a brilliant horror writers work stands on a very thin rim in scaring the average public. It is not meant to be believeable by any stretch of the means simply because as if silver is really going to disintegrate something no earthly made material will divide, conquer and eventually destroy.

Even though it does not hold the attention of true horror-genre film lovers such as I, (Nosferatu from 1926 was a real horror movie--no idea what would jump up next !) it does capture the professional acting abilities of a well-respected cast such as Gary Busey, Everitt McGill, Corey Haim and a very young actress named Megan Follows.

Corey Haim plays a young wheelchair bound kid named Marty Coslow whose Uncle Redd has decided to take him and his sister Jane for the summer. The reason Marty is in a wheelchair is unknown but he does not seem to be set back from reaching a potential only he knows he has within himself. Uncle Redd played By Busey is an incredible 'little boy for a dad' kind of replacement although he does lie for you, covers up cheating or stealing, and has a special fondness for letting you get your way, as long as nobody gets hurt. These kind of uncles also believe the unbelievable and Uncle Redd believed Marty.

Jane on the other hand, played by the lovely very young novice actress Megan Follows, is the sister and 'quiet no longer scared but reserved' voice from beginning and throughout the movie offering the predisposition of the events that follow, almost believes too late. Trying too convince her was both humorous and creepy and yet not keeping me at the edge of my seat. Its not like that. It is constructive with the display of semi-rivalry between siblings.

The teamwork of sibling dependence and independence is remarkably demonstrated between these two because his disability is not seen as such by Redd as it is by Jane, until Marty proves himself and then well you know . . . There are grisly murders, a few grotesque and disfiguring transformations involving flesh and fur offering the furthest from ones mind the possibility that man and beast, are one.

Utilizing the religious and sacred elements is genuinely blasphemous but correctly deemed as carnal and animalistic when something such as this, as universal takes over. The story has you thinking a strong belief whether right or wrong can make us do unspeakable things, especially in the presence of a lunar cycle so eerily adapted to mystifying tendencies, that supernatural beings are manifested. It becomes apparent that whatever we perceive is not always what we think we see and in this case a story may not just be a story but something brought out of fear and made a known fact. Had it not been for the sincere representation of fortitude Gary Busey displays across the emotional spectrum, I would not have watched it in its entirety; but the faces of Busey and Haim when finally facing their tormentor are led to be as convincing as ever making this movie worth watching at least once !
