There is not many films that I can remember almost everything about, but Terms of Endearment is one of those films. I can remember dialog and scenes like I saw this movie yesterday. It was an absolutely memorable film and well deserving of its academy award for "Best Picture".
Shirley MacLaine and Jack Nicholas were also most deserving of their academy awards for "best Actress" and "Best Supporting Actor" respectfully. MacLaine was superb as the loving, yet somehwhat detached mother and Nicholas was hilarious as the skirt chasing, out of shape, ex-astronaut. These two characters will have you rolling at times.
This movie was funny, tearful, and uplifting. It will run you through a series of emotions that is far beyond any roller coaster ride I have experienced. It is a study of human nature, as well as, a study of family dynamics and relationships. Terms of Endearment makes you think while it entertains you.
This is a great movie that you will certainly want to see again and again. I can assure you, you will not be disappointed. One word of advise though, if you expect the same kind of experience from the sequel "The Evening Star" you will be sadly disappointed. True to form, the sequel just can not capture the magic of the first. Watch Terms of Endearment again instead.
