Pros: A rich, warm, humanist philosophy about the give-and-take needed to live together.
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: American cinema at its very best - humane, tender, thoughtful and kind-hearted. It will move you and enrich your life for having seen it.
Plot Details: This opinion reveals no details about the movie's plot.
This is a magnificent film that constantly reminds us how we are all at different stages in life, and have to make allowances for each other's strengths and weaknesses in order to get along together. All of the characters in this film have their own set of priorities which of course, are not always the same, and we see, through the unfolding of the story, how it is our personal life experiences that shapes these things. Geraldine Page, as always, delivers a stunning performance, but the entire production, right down to details of locations and art-direction are of the highest order. One of the best American films ever made in my opinion, and one which involves both the head and the heart in equal measure. Highly recommended; once seen it will linger in your memory forever.
