did not win an Oscar. Her character is the most prominent addition, no? So what other character(s) do you mean are extraneous? She's too much fun. It's Tyrone Power the film could have done without (the actor, not the character he played) in my opinion.

I like this movie a lot, too. The performances are amazing. I especially love the developing relationship between Lanchester and Laughton. I read somewhere, years ago, that Romaine's name was changed "to avoid confusion with the vegetable."
