I recommended this movie for my daughter. It is am inspirational story of a young woman's personal courage and fight to study her religious faith. Plus, it is highly entertaining - posing as a young man so that she can study the Torah, Yentl finds herself in some awkward and unusual situations. But she responds with integrity and grace and manages to get through them all. The movie depicts traditional Jewish culture, but doesn't seem to do so in a demeaning way, as many movies depict traditional religions and culture. Instead, it just explores how people cope with their culture and make a life for themselves within its context. While, Yentl does reject the traditional role of women, she also embraces her Judaism in a totally remarkable and passionate way which I admire. I highly recommend this movie for all women and girls and for males interested in exploring religious ideas.
