Not only did Barbara Streisand star in Yentl, but she produced, directed and co-wrote this fable of love and sacrifice.
Based on Yentl, the Yeshiva Boy, in eastern Europe, when the world of knowledge belonged only to men, a girl named Yentl wanted to learn. She masqueraded as a boy in order to pursue her studies. When she meets a fellow student, Avigdor (Mandy Patinkin), she falls in love. Not realizing that Yentl is a girl, they become the best of friends. The problems start when his fiancee Hadass, best supporting actress nominee, Amy Irving, falls in love with her.
Barbra's love for this movie truly shows as she performs the academy award winning score, which includes Papa Can You Hear Me and The Way He Makes Me Feel.
This movie is wonderful and everyone should see it.
