I recently bought this movie because I had a goofy childhood memory of Matthew Broderick running around with a Komodo Dragon. Curious as to what the movie really was about, I purchased it at a used video store.
Story
Broderick stars as Clark Kellogg, a college freshman new to New York. Soon after his arrival in New York, he looses everything to a con-artist, but a few days later is able to catch to con. The con offers him a job because he has already spent Kellogg's money. The job would be to pick up a special package and deliver it for a powerful importer named Carmine Sabatini (Marlon Brando). After a hilarious adventure with a Komodo Dragon, Kellogg learns that the Komodo Dragon is endangered, the FBI is after him, and he is engaged to Sabatini's daughter. Clark must figure out the truth from the entire mess and discover that everyone is not what they seem to be.
What is so great about this?
Following the traditional scheme of a comedy, The Freshmen turns into a hilarious mess and a surprising conclusion ending everything in perfect happiness. The cast is outstanding: Marlon Brando plays a different but familiar role perfectly, while Matthew Broderick performs his character as a confused college student to the letter. Furthermore, Penelope Ann Miller's character completes this masterpiece.
