If there is a such thing as a documentary mainstream, Ken Burns helped create it with this masterpiece. Never before had a strictly historical documentary been able to grab the attention of the masses to such an extent. Every history buff in the United States either has or should see this amazing film.
As an employee of Florentine Films (Ken Burns studio) I have seen him in action, polishing the films to absolute perfection. The editing alone takes us months upon months of work to complete, even for the shorter documentaries. It would have been an honor to have worked on such an incredible piece as The Civil War. Jazz has recently been completed and we are now working on Mark Twain, so be patient for more of these great films.
