mombetty97's Full Review: Ken Burns' The Civil War: A Film Directed By Ken B...
To tell you all that this series has to offer would be impossable! What follows are my thoughts and ideas about the videos!
Ken Burns has taken so many different sources and made them into a living history about one of this country's most trying times. He has used photos from the time mixed with a few modern shots , wonderful music, and voice-overs that bring history alive!!!
We are taken from the first shots of the war to the tragic end with much of the feelings that first brought me to the study of the Civil War!
This series offers something for ALL!! I truly believe that this is as close to time travel as we will get in our life time!!!!
While many people fell that this is too intense for younger folks I have to dissagree! I have spent many hours watching this with my grandson. I was lucky enough to have been given the set by a friend! Austin ( my grandson ) and I have talked about the bad things that happened. So many good men getting shot and killed. The pain of being away from home. Slavery was difficult to explain to a 4 year old but he has some understanding of it! Austin has grown to admire Lincoln, Grant, Lee and Davis!
