The Bottom Line: Superior vampire caper, with charming and engaging performances from nearly all the cast. This is helped along the way, by the studio sets, camera work, costume, and lighting.

Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
Although it was considered dead in the water almost on release, this excellent film has enjoyed something of a revival in later years. One can understand why; an extremely rewarding film in virtually every sense. Intended as a spoof on the Hammer series of horrors, but in some ways, echoing Polanski's personal experiences as a child surrounded by the horrors of second world war Poland, this film contains some poignant moments. Sharon Tate, being taken away from her family (by the local aristocratic vampire) being one. The music is a particular delight, particularly the harpsichord playing during the ballroom sequence at the end. This film seems to celebrate the alienated plight of minority groups everywhere: gays; Jews; hunchbacks etc. (all of which are, coincidentally vampires). If anyone likes this film, I could also recommend "Vamp" (1986), although the humor is a lot less subtle, and, overall everything else is of a much inferior quality to "Fearless Vampire Killers" - an excellent film (in my opinion).
