My Girl is a sweet story about a girl that has to learn about love and loss. It is about a girl dealing through pre-pubescent times without a mother, a father dating, a crush on her teacher and the loss of a young friend.
Vada is a girl that is dealing with her fears like any other eleven year old girl. Her thoughts and dreams are enlightening, touching, funny and sad. It is a movie that is so pure on the topic of death.
Vada has had to deal with death her whole life not only b/c of the death of her mother soon after her birth but also b/c her father is the local mortician.
She is a tom girl that has trouble fitting in with the other girls and through her resistant friendship with her father's new girlfriend, Vada learns the lessons of becoming a woman.
This movie will make anyone cry. I personally never cry watching movies but I think it took me at least three times before i could watch the movie without tearing up towards the end. I think that the feelings and reactions of Vada in this movie are as truthful as any acting could be and the acting of Anna Chlumsky is superb.
