Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
It should be hard to pick a favorite Disney movie considering all they have contributed over the decades, but far and away the best is "Beauty and the Beast." Yes, it's a fairy tale and yes, it's a cartoon. However, this is a cartoon for grownups as well as children.
The movie is a pure delight. The songs are the best collection from any Disney feature as they are lively and catchy with lyrics that will appeal to all the age groups mixed up as well as visual backgrounds that do the same. The voice overs were just wonderful. Paige O'hara gave voice to Belle, our heroine, and her singing voice is simply blissful. Other familiar voices include David Ogden Stiers (Charles Winchester on "M*A*S*H") who narrates and voices Cogsworth the talking clock, Angela Landsbury ("Murder, She Wrote") voices Mrs. Potts, the talking tea pot and Robbie Benson is superb in giving voice to the Beast. Richard White, although not famous, does a great job as Gaston, the obnoxious hunter and true "beast" of the tale.
The animation is also superb. You simply need view the character's facial expressions to realize this but it doesn't stop there. Watching this makes me long for the "Provincial Life" and entertains me each and every time. Watching it with my son as he gets older and older is one of life's simple pleasures.
I could ramble for pages but I think you get the idea. Simply put, it's a truly entertaining fairy tale for all ages. Add it to your collection.
