This is one movie that really pulls at your emotion. The first time that I watched this film, was with my girlfriend (now my wife). Though I'm not a big fan of Anime I thought I'd watch the movie. It was a "bootleg" Japanese language version of the tape with Chinese sub titles. So it didn't have the front cover so I could find a version of it here. The language wasn't a problem as the animation and tones of the characters made it understandable to me. At the end of the film I had mixed emotions about how I liked it.
Couple of years later looking in a video store with my wife and new baby daughter, I found a copy of it that was dubbed in English. We got the movie and I watched it over again. This time however I cried (oh boy did I cry) at the death of Setsuko. I guess emotions and how you feel about a movie are reflected in how your life has changed. I get teary eyed even thinking about this movie now.
This film is a must see for everyone. Children may or may not understand what's going on exactly.
