Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
Deep Cover is a movie you need to rent. It's a movie about the duality of human nature. Are we good or evil? Is there a thin line between the two?
The movie opens with a graphic scene of a young boy whose father commits a crime and is murdered. The boy vows never to follow in his father's footsteps. Years later, the young boy has grown into a man. He keeps his vow by becoming a police officer.
An undercover position has opened up, and he goes to interview for it. The interviewer asks each candidate "what is the difference between a black man and a n----r?" Each candidate answers it differently, none seeming to please the interviewer. Laurence Fishburne's character is the only one with a good answer saying, "the n----r is the one who would answer that question." Before long, he is offered the undercover job.
He is asked to sell drugs as an undercover job. He will be working with the smaller drug dealers on the street at first. His mission is to work his way up the ladder, and take out some of the bad guys. He accepts this mission, and does it well.
Eventually, he gets up to the top of the command. By this time, all bets are off. The once law abiding police officer has broken more laws than you can shake a stick at. Eventually, you wonder if he is the good guy or the bad guy. The line between good and evil is blurred with many of the characters in this movie.
The movie is suspenseful and action-packed at times. It is certainly a movie worth adding to your dvd collection, or at least renting the next time you go to Blockbuster. I promise you, it will keep your attention and wondering what will happen next. It also raises many questions (in my mind at least) about the nature of man.
