Dear Jan: Thank you. You're quite a girl yourself.
As I indicated in my little toot of my own horn in the current SECOND SAN FRANCISCO EPINIONS MEET N' GREET Report, there is great interest now in several "gored" Welles' properties.
You might want to wait (hopefully, not too long) for Criterion's projected DVD Restored Edition of MR. ARKADIN/CONFIDENTIAL REPORT, which will utilize either "The Corinth Version" (not generally available anywhere at the moment) or Munich Film Museum Curator Stefan Droessler's reconstruction (from materials donated by Welles' Collaborator Oja Kodar), or a combination of both.
[The history of posthumous attempts to restore Welles' films is an ironic family comedy which the great director might almost have relished.]
Thank you, as always, for your support.
Alex

Yes, Howard, I agree. Welles may have been ahead of his time here also. If we are able to think back to 1955, we may note that the common observations about materialism, debt, depression, overeating, alcohol abuse, other drug taking, domestic strife, teenage suicide, mass murder at the Holidays were either unheard of, unknown, or little remarked upon. Welles is seeing the Holidays as a dark time for the elderly who have lost power like Zouk, or are losing it like Arkadin. And I suppose, people like Van Stratten and Milly have spent their youth trying to make a material stake, and near the Holidays, they lose their chance.
For a great many people, Welles can be a realistic corrective to the mindless, ephemeral materialism we are driven to engage in.
Happy New Year!
