amartinezfonts's Full Review: Sidewalks of New York
Plot Details: This opinion reveals no details about the movie's plot.
I saw "Sidewalks of New York" at its world premiere at the San Francisco International(?) Film Festival, and thought it was wonderful. Part of my fascination with this film probably stems from the fact that I like Edward Burns (who wrote, directed, and starred in this movie) and his work a lot.
"Sidewalks of New York" is one of those movies that has a little bit of everything: wit and humor, comedy, sarcasm, drama, and mostly, honesty. The situations and characters presented in this movie are really quite ordinary, but a good number of the scenes are documentary-style interviews, which gives a really honest view into the personalities and motivations behind these characters actions.
The actors in this movie alone are worth going to see. Edward Burns is cool and detached, but a real Sam Malone-style babe hound in other ways. Heather Graham plays a very average but quick-witted married woman. Stanley Tucci is her slimeball husband, but, of course, he's a likable slimeball with understandable motivations. And David Krumholtz does probably the most impressive job as the bumbling bellboy. Oh, and how could I forget Dennis Farina as Burns' "Ladies Man"-style boss. He's hilarious.
Be forewarned: if it hadn't been a hit TV show already, they could have called this movie "Sex and the City." It deals with a lot of big issues around sexual relationships and sexuality, and it's probably not appropriate for kids.
