Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie''s plot.
The movie starts of quite slow with main man clarence (christian slater) sitting in a bar on his birthday hitting on a blonde that isn't interested in seeing kung fu movies with him. After the opening credits, Clarence's life begins to change.
After starting his marathon of three kung fu movies at the theater, the beautiful Alabama(Patricia Arquette)spills her popcorn all over Clarence and the two start to gab about the movie they just saw over pie. One thing leads to another and then they end up sleeping together in his apartment.
Early the next morning Alabama reveals that she is a call girl and she was paid to sleep with Clarence, but fell in love with him. He loves her too so they decide to get married. After having an intervention in the bathroom with his alter ego Elvis,(played by Val Kilmer)he decides to rescue his new wife's belongings from her pimp and teach him how to treat a lady. The pimp doesn't learn anything so Clarence decides to kill him and demands that one of the other call girls pack all of Alabama's things, but she puts a half million dollars worth of cocaine in the suitcase instead of her belongings.
The rest of the story revolves around how these newlyweds can make the most out of the cocaine and trying to push it while running from Alabama's ex-pimp's business associates.
Written by Quentin Terantino, this movie was funny, yet violent, entertaining, and a wonderful love story. With an all-star cast including Christopher Walken, James Gandolfini, Val Kilmer, Brad Pitt(He plays a stoner!) and Dennis Hopper, the movie was both fresh and entertaining. There were of course quarks to the plot including interesting places to play the theme music, and off beat comments made by the cast, but the quarks of the movie just made it more entertaining to watch.
People sometimes forget about what the job of a movie is supposed to do. It doesn't matter if it is an arty film, or what the message behind the film is, movies are here to entertain. That is the main purpose and why Americans watch movies. This movie is smart, keeps the attention of the audience and leaves you walking away feeling good about the two hours of entertainment you just endeared.
