Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie''s plot.
I don't know how I stumbled across this movie, but I'm really glad I did. This is one comedy that you've probably never seen, that really is worth watching. Trust me, you'll want to get this one.
Plot
A husband and wife team of ex-spies is in New Orleans on Maternity leave when they are assaulted by their boss. He wants them to do one more job, but they agreed that when they had the baby they would lay off. Because of the magnitude of the situation and because the perpetrator is someone they know, they agree to take it on. What follows is a comedy of epic proportions as they are assaulted by muggers, the police, and the bad guys.
What I Liked
Sometimes I get a little irritated with films in the comedy genre. I don't like the ones that are too stupid or slapstick. This one though has just the right amount of genuine action with comedy that will have you laughing your head off. I guarantee you, that you've never seen anything quite like this. Muerte is a mugger that fails to mug Jeff Blue (the husband of the spy team.) He keeps coming back to try again, and he adds such a comic element to this film. Jeff and Jane Blue are hilarious as well. Honestly, this is one that I really encourage you to watch. I love how it's great for men and women alike because of the comic element and the adventure element.
What I Didn't Like
There isn't a thing in this film that goes in this category. Have I convinced you to watch it yet?
Acting
Dennis Quaid plays Jefferson Blue, and I never knew how hilarious he could be. His wife, Jane, is played by Kathleen Turner. She and Dennis Quaid get along famously. Not only do they have a wonderful chemistry together, but they work off of each other as far as the comedic element as well. Paulina is the bad guy (or gal in this case) in the movie. Fiona Shaw plays her and also does a wonderful job. I have to say that it's possible, though, that Muerte (or Morty) steals the show. He's played by Stanley Tucci who you can also see in The Devil Wears Prada. You won't even believe he's the same guy! He is hilarious and worth watching all on his own.
Details
The movie came out in 1993 and is 90 minutes long, but I would have loved it if they had expanded that a little bit. It's rated PG-13 and because there is quite a bit of action in this one, you'll want to restrict your younger children from watching it. It's best left to teenagers and adults.
Bottom Line
I can't express to you how great this movie is. I love that it's full of action and is a real spy story, but yet also has a great hilarious element to it. It will keep you not only wondering what's going to happen next but laughing when it does happen! This one will keep you guessing and is well worth the money of buying it.
