Tombstone: Tell Them I'm Coming and Hells Coming with me!

Nov 3, 2009
Review by
Rated a Very Helpful Review

Pros:Val Kilmer's role as Doc Holliday, and story line.

Cons:It was a little long.

The Bottom Line: If you want to watch a good western, consider the thrill, rushing movie "Tombstone".

Tombstone: Tell them I’m Coming and Hells Coming with me!

Just the other night I sat down with my college roommates to watch the infamous western tombstone for the sixth time. Most of my roommates have hardly watched westerns so they didn’t know what they were getting into but they came away dumfounded and astonished, wanting nothing more than to hop on a horse and join in the fight for justice. I couldn’t have been happier. This world needs more westerns and western enthusiasts.
The story begins at a railway station in old western Arizona. Wyatt Earp, played by Kurt Russell, meets his two brothers Morgan and Virgil, and The Earp family had come west in search of fortune and an escape from the life of being lawmen. All were excited for the new beginning. From here they headed to the booming silver town of Tombstone. The town is for the most part controlled by a rough; mean group of men called the cowboys led my Ike Clanton and the fast draw Johnny Ringo.  Tombstone is in desperate need of the law and tough men to enforce it. Although the Earp brothers seek to avoid it, they and long lost friend and gambler Doc Holliday (played by Val Kilmer) end up in the fight for justice, peace, and revenge.
Cast:
Tombstone is pretty well stacked when it comes to actors. My favorite role is that of Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday in what I feel as Kilmer’s best role of all time. Doc, who received his nickname from his trade as a dentist. Came to Arizona in search of a warmer climate to ease the pain of Tuberculosis.  Although a dentist, Docs specialty is cards and he loves to gamble. He has a cool head and is not quick to anger; any attempt to cross him is answered with a witty remark or the cold steel of his six gun in your face. Watch closely for his famous lines, they are ones you will want to remember. I might add that Kilmer received an Oscar for his role in this movie.
Wyatt Earp, played by Kurt Russell, is equally amazing. A former lawman of Dodge City, Kansas he is no stranger to a good fight. I also enjoyed the quick gun of Johnny Ringo played by Michael Biehn.
Conclusion:
Tombstone is definitely one of my favorite westerns of all time. I love the kinship of the Earp brothers and Doc Holliday. It shows how a man should treat his friends. I especially enjoyed the friendship of Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday. Famous quotes are in abundance from: “I’m your Huckleberry,” to “He’s down by the river, walking on the water.”  This movie is rated R for language and violence but really a lot of PG13 movies are much worse. It runs 130 minutes and is directed by George Cosmatos.  Don’t miss it!
