Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie''s plot.
I've seen this movie probably dozens of times, in the theatre, on VHS, and now on DVD. Although, it's been more then a year since I last watched it. Having been so long, it was almost like watching it for the first time again. While I know the movie by heart, just about, things seemed to look differently then I remembered. This made watching the movie fun all over again.
The first time I saw "Jurassic Park", I was only 8. Now, at that time, I thought it was the best movie in the history of movies. It had dinosaurs, and that alone made it great in my book. And even after all these years, I think that it has the best-looking dinosaurs then any movie I've seen. Out of the trilogy, this one, by far has the best effects. The dinosaurs actually look real, even when they're computer generated, something that seems to be lost in movies today. Stan Winston did a fantastic job at making it look as though a living, breathing Tyrannosaur was tearing a car apart.
The acting is another good aspect. The cast is made up of moderately well known actors, but good ones. Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, and Richard Attenborough especially, seem to really get into their characters and make them real. There aren't any faceless, nameless characters, either, which is always nice. Each of the characters has their own unique look to them (with the exception of the extras, of course).
The story is very good, adapted from Crichton's book. The book, of course, had more detail and had a lot more in it, but the movie is a good adaptation.
Now come the problems and flaws. The continuity in "Jurassic Park" is so bad it almost ruins it if you try and piece it together. There are cliffs that magically appear where it had just been flat ground. Nedry has to go into the park to get to the dock, and also that whole twisty-turny road he goes down is just about ludicrous. Characters end up doing things with little sense and even less of a reason (Muldoon's demise comes to mind, most specifically). I've seen characters in bad slasher movies that had more common sense then some of the characters in "JP" have at times. And there were more then a few times, where things just seem to happen as though they were planned and were just waiting for the cue to happen, like T- Rex's appearances and also some of the Raptor stuff.
