Gee, I don't know what to say about this film that hasn't already been said. How about this: I have watched this movie hundreds of times and I never get tired of it. It's a bit like 'Twister' (see review elsewhere on this site) in that I know every line of the dialogue, but I still watch it time and again just because it's so darned entertaining.
If you are one of the few people who haven't seen this movie yet, then you're in for a big surprise. I mean that in a good way. If you have kids who haven't seen this one, be warned that it is graphically violent in places, but if you're not bothered too much with that, the kids should love this one. There are even a couple of kids in it.
I'm not going to go too much into detail about the storyline itself here, those that have seen it already know what the story's about and those that haven't seen it won't want the show ruined by what I can say about it. Basically it's a fight-for-survival movie with some of the most suspenseful and tense scenes I have ever seen put to celluloid. The special effects are marvelous and it's hard to tell what's real and what's computer graphics. The fact that it was released 7 years ago hasn't made it look like it's aged, either.
The acting is absolutely on the mark with Sam Neill and Laura Dern (Bruce Dern's daughter) playing palaentologists whose sense of wonder quickly turns to terror. Jeff Goldblum is a sharp-tongued chaotician (or chaos mathematician), who is both a lecher and remarkably clever. Richard Attenborough is the cause of all the trouble, and Samuel L Jackson is one of his computer techs trying to bring order to the chaos that ensues when everything goes haywire. They are all at the top of their game here.
It doesn't hurt that Michael Crichton (Twister, Congo, Andromeda Strain) wrote both the book and the screenplay. As far as I'm concerned this is movie-making at it's zenith. It's what I shell out $8 to see, and with shows like this, I don't mind the cost.
