Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
Living the life of a rodeo cowboy is rough, but anyone who chooses to become a rodeo cowboy knows that they are just one ride away from one of two things, glory or death. Lane Frost spent his short rodeo career living life to the fullest. He became the youngest man to ever hold the title of National Bull Riding champion.
8 Seconds tells the story of the all too brief life of Lane Frost. Luke Perry plays the part of Lane in the movie and it is and eerie feeling to watch, as Luke looks so much like the real Lane Frost. Lane befriended Tuff Hedemen and much of this story is about their friendship and what the two went through together to get to top of their field.
It seemed that there wasn’t a bull that Lane Frost couldn’t ride, but that all changed when he drew the elusive Red Rock in a rodeo. This bull became Lane’s obsession he eventually conquered this bull. This part of the movie will make you cheer for the man who has fought so hard to get to that moment when he rides Red Rock. The movie will show you the life of Lane, how he fell in love with his wife Kellie, who herself was a horsewoman. She gives up her dreams to take care of support her husband. But the life of a rodeo cowboy can do major damage to a relationship, which is shown in wonderful detail in this movie. You will see just what having a successful rodeo career can do to a wife who is often left alone at home while her husband travels the rodeo circuit.
8 Seconds will make you laugh and cheer for Lane as he works himself to the top of his profession. I enjoyed seeing just how the life of a rodeo cowboy can affect those that love you the most and this movie delivers that. The riding sequences in this movie are wonderful and you will feel as if you are there in the stands cheering for Lane Frost. In the final scenes you will see Lane do the one thing he has always wanted to do and that is to ride the bull Red Rock. His dream although accomplished comes to a tragic end. The final scenes of Lane getting killed on the back of a 1000-pound mean bull will tug at your heartstrings.
Lane Frost set an example for all rodeo cowboys in the way he handled himself, his career and his life. He set so many records in his short career and led the way for many a young cowboy. Along with his best friend Tuff Hedemen, they lived life to the fullest and did what they enjoyed the most, rodeo.
Had Lane Frost lived he would be a living legend in the sport of rodeo, but with his untimely death he became a memory of one of the greatest rodeo cowboys ever. He was the youngest rider ever nominated to the Rodeo Hall of Fame.
Growing up around rodeos and going often, I can tell you that this movie shows the ups and downs, the ins and outs and the finality of the sport of rodeo. You give it your all and in the end either you win or the animal does, in the case of Lane Frost I believe both things happened. He did the one thing he wanted to do and that was to ride Red Rock, but his dream costs him his life.
This is one of the best movies ever made about the life of a rodeo cowboy. It shows the side of rodeo that many people never get to see. The only movie that I can even compare to this one would be Junior Bonner another great rodeo movie.
Be prepared for some intense scenes with real life footage of the last ride of Lane Frost. As the credits roll you will be treated to pictures of the life and times of a real American Cowboy, Lane Frost. The music is great in this movie with songs by Brooks and Dunn and Vince Gill. Prepare yourself for a wild ride and a great movie.
Lane Frost may have left us way to soon, but he will live forever in the movie of 8 Seconds.
