I'm not much of a cowboy, or like seeing things about cowboys, but my dad does, and when he got 8 Seconds, I cringed at the thought of seeing two more hours of bull riding. But it's much more than bull riding. It's the story of every man, and how deep down, all we're doing is reaching for our dream.
I had only a vague knowledge of who Lane Frost was before I saw this. But now I have a deep and profound respect for this man, Tuff Hedeman, and what the two went through. It opened slowly, but once it got rolling, I was glued to my seat. Luke Perry gave a stunning performance, and I was rooting for him all the way, even though I knew this was one story without a happy ending. I nearly jumped up and cheered myself when he finally rode the elusive Red Rock, and tears welled up in my eyes when he met his tragic end. And I remember thinking as the final song played, I hope I can realize my dream the way Lane did, and go out in a blaze of glory, doing what I love.
This is not the greatest movie I have ever seen, but it does make you think a lot, which is why the first person you should take this movie to is a person who is unsure about his/her dream and whether it's achievable. This movie is worth seeing if you are bored and sitting at home wondering what to do with your night, too.
