Airheads is one of the most surprising comedies I've ever seen. You expect it to be another SNL type of movie with raunchy humor and a completely pointless plot. In actuality it's an interesting story that is borderline hilarious with a little love thrown in. Yes there are some ridiculous moments and some scenes are totally unbelievable, but this is an all-around good movie that I think most teenagers would enjoy.
Brendan Fraser plays Chazz, the leader of a grunge rock band trying to get their break. They fail time and time again, but a fight between Chazz and his girlfriend lead the group to new determination. Since record executives won't even listen to their demo tape, they decide to go down to a radio station and get their song played on the air. Sounds simple right?
They find that executives at the radio station are just as harsh as all the others, and even the radio DJ wants nothing to do with them. Out of frustration Chazz pulls out a water gun which looks like a machine gun. His attempts to scare the execs into playing their song quickly turns sour as the police quickly show up. From there things turn worse, as it's no longer a simple prank but now a full blown hostage situation.
From there most of the movie takes place inside the radio station and in the parking lot. Not only does a group of rock fans assemble in support of Chazz and his band, the police send in a secret weapon to rescue the hostages. This secret weapon is a complete fool played by Michael Richards. In fact most of the characters are played by known actors, there are just about no unknowns. Brendan Fraser, Adam Sandler, Steve Buscemi, Chris Farley, Ernie Hudson, Joe Mantegna, Michael Richards, Michael McKean, Amy Locane, and many more well known actors play roles in this movie.
Overall I really enjoyed watching Airheads. I like to sit back once in a while with some friends and check it out again just for the laughs. This is definitely one funny movie.
