OrphanN64's Full Review: Ranma 1/2 TV Series - V. 8
OK, maybe the main reason I really liked this tape was that it introduced my favorite Ranma 1/2 character, Shampoo. But hey, who doesn't like that spunky Chinese girl that speaks broken english? Actually, nearly every episode in the whole Ranma 1/2 series with her in it have been delightful, and these is a good example.
Of course her introduction is a blast! A blast through the wall of an ice cream shop that is. The first episode is gem that really never gets tiring. It starts out that Girl Ranma and Akane are eating ice cream in a sweet shop when Shampoo blasts through the wall and tries to kill Girl Ranma. After a while (and a lot of battles) it discovered that when Girl Ranma defeated Shampoo in China she gave Ranma the kiss of death and must now follow Girl Ranma to the ends of Earth to kill her. Though when male Ranma defeated her she has to marry him! Now here is a real love (and hate) triangle: Shampoo loves Male Ranma; Shampoo hates Girl Ranma!
In episode two, Shampoo still won't give up! After sneaking into Male Ranma's bed (and Akane seeing her) and frying P-Chan to give to Male Ranma as lunch (he lived), Akane has had enough! She challenges Shampoo to a battle and who do you think wins? SHAMPOO! Oddly enough, After the battle is over Akane can't remember Ranma but she can remember everyone else. Dr. Tofu explains that Shampoo used a move that can not only make your opponent's hair as smooth as silk with lots of bounce but can selectively remove a memory! Now Ranma has got to get the antidote!
Overall, these two episode are two of the best in the TV series. The dubbing has and continues to be top-notch with Shampoo's voice. The visuals are below average but these episodes are slightly old and are on VHS. This tape isn't the best introduction to the Ranma series though it would seem that way considering they introduce a new character. I suggest searching for tape as best as you can because it doesn't get too much better than this!
