I tuned into "A Simple Twist of Fate" purely to see Steve Martin. Having never read "Silas Marner", I have nothing to compare it to, and instead found it a compelling story line by its own account.
Steve Martin has excellent comedic timing, as always, but manages to keep it check for basically a dramatic story line. Gabriel Byrne is just dark enough to stop the viewer from pulling for him, while Laura Linney's character seems a bit underdeveloped.
The pitting of a loving, adoptive father against the rich, selfish biological one "sans" any overtly maternal moms provided an often neglected insight into paternal emotions.
Though the scenes depicting the initial confrontation between the fathers seemed jumpy and rushed, basically the film flowed. I enjoyed it and will recommend it.
