Action Factor:
Pros:Killer song selection (25+ tracks). A glimpse of a younger Bad Religion.
Cons:Nothing from "Into The Unknown" performed here.
The Bottom Line: Best Bad Religion video for your buck. Lots of songs and interviews, as well.
In 1988, after a nearly four-year hiatus, Bad Religion entered Westbeach Recording Studio and came out with the explosive "Suffer" LP. Touring in support of that album eventually brought the band to Germany, where they were captured on film for "Along The Way". This video showcases the band in top form. Nobody is overweight or balding yet and Pete Finestone sports a ripped physique behind his battered drum kit. Many classic Bad Religion tunes are featured in this lengthy set-- "F**k Armageddon", "Do What You Want" ,"Suffer", "Along The Way", "We're Only Gonna Die"-- the parade of killer songs never seems to end.
Also included in this splendid video are interviews with every member of the band, and many of them are quite amusing. Greg Hetson gives props to Nintendo, Pete Finestone jokes about the band's playing ability, and Jay Bentley attacks televangelists. Also, Brett talks about his addiction to crack (which would rear its ugly head again in the late 90s) and how he still doesn't necessarily have an anti-drug stance (no kidding).
This video is everything a casual and hardcore Bad Religion fan could ever want. The only quibble I have with it is that the band doesn't play a single song from "Into the Unknown". Forget the fact that some tracks had keyboards and acoustic guitars. A "punk" version of songs like "Billy Gnosis", "It's Only Over When", etc. would fit in nicely with the rest of the set.
