***************REWRITTEN****************
Clerks is by far, the best Kevin Smith movie ever made. It tells the story of 2 New Jersey slackers with no real aspirations. Dante (Brian O'Halloran) is the clerk at the Quick Stop Convenience Store, while his best friend Randal (Jeff Anderson) is a clerk at the nearby video store. Dante is infuriated when he discovers that his girlfriend (Marilyn Ghigliotti) has participated in some disgusting sexual exploits. Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Kevin Smith), although funny loiterers in other movies, give the funniest performance of their careers. This movies takes you on a journey through the ups and downs of Dante's life that he doesn't want to change.
I saw this movie, because it looked different to me. I knew it was black and white, and I knew that it was an original type of humor. This was the first Kevin Smith movie I saw, and when I was done, I was absolutely delighted. This movie shed a whole new light on the comedy genre, and it was quite impressive.
Kevin Smith has gone on to do such movies as Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, and most recently Jay and Silent Bob, but this movie is his most honest work, and it really stands out on screen. His style is so fresh, and you won’t be able to find anything as unique in Hollywood to this very day.
The dialog that Kevin Smith wrote is so inventive and so true, that it really gives the movie a great pizazz. I personally enjoyed the humor the most, because it's all from real life situations. The humor is taken out of every day occurrences, and it is done with such finesse.
The characters are so real, so honest. I mean, sure there are a few offensive comments, but it all adds to the originality of Kevin Smith’s work. This is his first movie, and I was especially lenient. Each character made me laugh out loud, and it was amazing how Kevin Smith made a whole movie about everyday situations. Who would’ve thought that the lives of 2 clerks could be so interesting?
The way this movie was made is spectacular. It was made for less than 20,000 and the realism just shines through. Kevin Smith turned ordinary lives into entertaining moments with many little conflicts. ))))))))))REVEALS SOMETHING ABOUT THE PLOT)))))))))) In one scene, Dante and Randall leave their stores to go to the funeral of one of their close friends. Randall tips over the casket, and they emerge from the funeral. They rocket to their car, and quickly drive away. (((((((((((REVEALS SOMETHING ABOUT THE PLOT(((((((((((( Each scene is funny in it’s own way, and the movie is really something special.
Compared to the other Kevin Smith movies, this one is obviously the best. Although when compared to other honest, short plotted humor such as Woody Allen, it's a toss up. If your the average Adam Sandler fan, this comedy probably isn't for you. But if you love Woody Allen or Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm) you should check this out.
