You haven't seen it rain for 30 years. You live on a planet that has taken on battle with many comets and lost every one. You can't get water except from one really bad monopolist. Your arch-rival is a nemesis not to be taken lightly. If all of these things summarize your predicament, then what other choice do you have but to get "Tank Girl" to defend you and help you seek the water you desire? There is no choice. She is your only savior.
This is the basic synopsis of the movie Tank Girl. The movie stars Lori Petty as the fiesty main character. Her ordeals are what the movie is about. The only problem with this, is that I don't think she is all that great of an actress. You will remember her as "Kit" in the movie "A League of Their Own". In that one, she was at least a little believable as the character she played. This time around, she plays the savior of everyone who must succeed in defeating the evil character of this movie. The bad-guy is played by Malcolm McDowell who you will remember as the criminal mastermind in Star Trek: Generations. He too should have remained in other pictures instead of taking on this one. Instead he plays a comical character who is out more to have fun then to protect his empire of water. (Can you believe that this is even the premise of a movie???).
Beyond the two main characters, we have a group of mutant kangaroos who turn out to be the only chance that Tank Girl has to defeat the bad-guy. They are led by an extremely miscast Ice-T. You think you have seen him act badly before? Here is the extreme of bad acting. I even lost respect for him after seeing this adverse movie based on no reality at all. But what did I really expect anyways? This movie is based on a comic book series of the same name: Tank Girl. Though I never took the time to get involved in this specific series, I can only guess that it would have been much better to just sit down and read it then wasted my time with this movie.
The only good thing that I could even see in this movie based in 2033 is that it gives a little respect to the toughness of women. There aren't many movies where the lead action hero is female. I applaud the effort that went into thinking out this movie, but I can't even say that someone should see this movie if it was the last one on the shelf. The acting is terrible, the action scenes are worse, and the plot splits open more than a fortune cookie.
Avoid this comic book rendering of a movie at all costs is my recommendation.
