"Tank Girl" brings to life the wacky Austrailian comic-book heroine and some of her friends. It's weird, crazy, and tons of fun, much like the comic book. It's the action movie for girls!
Lori Petty plays Rebecca, aka Tank Girl. After her friends are killed and her house is destroyed, she vows to seek vengence on Water and Power, the organization that rules the world in this futuristic setting. She is captured and tortured on numerous occasions, but always manages to escape, with the help of her shy but brilliant sidekick Jet Girl. They get into tons of adventures as they attempt to thwart the head of Water and Power, played by the sinister Malcom MacDowell.
The movie has the look and feel of a comic book, and even has occasional illustrations, speech bubbles and all, breaking up the non-stop action. The rippers, a gang of underground creatures also fighting water and power, are wonderfully costumed (they're half man, half kangaroo). The special effects are really cool without getting in the way. There's a great performance by Ice-T as one of the rippers. And of course, there's the big show-stopping song and dance number (Cole Porter's "Let's Do It). It's got everything you could ever ask for in a movie.
In addition, there's a kickin' soundtrack, featuring the likes of Bjork and Ice-T, with some really great songs. It's a really fun movie.
