Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.

Bad Boys, is an action movie that came out back in 1995. It was Directed by Michael Bay, whom you may know as the Director of The Rock, Armageddon, and the upcoming movie Pearl Harbor. It stars are Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in their first big-screen action movies. Tea Leoni also stars in it as the witness to a crime at the beginning of the film. It was produced by the great Jerry Bruckheimer who has Produced or Directed: Beverly Hills Cop, Armageddon, Coyote Ugly, Days of Thunder, Top Gun, and Crimson Tide, to just name a few of the films that he has been involved in. The soundtrack was done by Mark Mancina who also did the tracks for the movie Speed. With this power packed cast of people behind the camera, you know that you are in for a good movie from square one.

Smith and Lawrence play two detectives working in Miami Beach. Lawrence plays the Father of 2 kids, and is married. While Smith plays sort of a "player" who is not tied down with one girlfriend he likes to think. Smith's character is named Mike Lowery, and he has been left money in a large inheritance through his family. This is a topic of much strife, as he has a lot of money, but still wants to be a cop. He is completely serious about his job, and does not care about the money involved, but rather getting the job done. As this is the case, his partner often brings up the fact that he values the job more than Lowery, because he needs it to support his family.

Martin Lawrence plays Detective Marcus Burnett, who is a great cop under pressure despite the fact that he always has to crack a joke to relieve tension in a situation. Teamed up with Lowery, Burnett must take down a drug boss that is starting to reek havoc on the city. The movie starts out with a huge drug theft from police headquarters by a notorious crook. His henchmen and he become responsible for a variety of crimes as a result of this including the death of Lowery's close and personal friend. This of course leads Lowery on a mission of vengeance to find the killer of his friend. Of course, they have a boss at the police precinct who will accept nothing but the best from them, and there is frequent yelling whenever he is in a scene. But, as a credit to the movie, it is able to move far past this.

The plot of the movie then begins to revolve around the one witness to the murder of his friend, Tea Leoni who plays Julie. Julie has her own spunk, and wants nothing to do with police protection at first, but when there is an attempt on her life, she soon comes to realize that she is better off with the police than with the criminals. So, amidst all this, Marcus is trying to make sure that is wife is happy, while he goes under-cover with the police. The problem though, is that he does not tell his wife this, but rather tells her that he is going to Cleveland on a business trip. This becomes a somewhat hilarious part of the movie as he tries to dodge his wife while at the same time trying to solve the case and save the life of the only person who can verify who the lead criminal is.

Being that this is a Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer movie, you know right off that there are going to be some great action scenes throughout the movie. You will not be disappointed if you come to this assumption before seeing the film. In fact, one of my favorite action scenes of all time is included in this film. The chase scene in the streets of Miami that takes place close to the end of the film is the one that I am talking about. Not only is the action and the acting great, but Mark Mancina works his magic with the music in the background. He makes the scene seem extremely dramatic, and it makes everything about the movie take a step in the right direction. I was seriously on the edge of my seat trying to guess exactly what was going to happen next. This scene itself, caused me to rewind the movie after I had watched it just to see that single scene once again.

For those of you who are unaware, this is the movie that made Will Smith a movie star. From here he would go on to make movies like Independence Day, Men In Black, and The Wild Wild West. It truly showed off his skills as an actor and helped to show him as more than just a comedian. He is very believable as a detective trying to overcome things in his past, and strives to make sure that the job gets done the right way day-in and day-out. I love this movie so much, because it is not your every day action movie where you can pretty much predict what is going to happen next. Instead, is makes you anticipate the next scene, and wonder just how the detectives are going to get to the bottom of their case.

I recommend that if you are a Will Smith fan and have not seen this movie, that you give it a try. Being his first action movie, it lets him go, and he is not trying to "over-act" his role in the film. Instead, you can see what makes him such an interesting person in life as well, by his interactions with everyone else in the film. There is strong language, and some violence, so I think that the movie earned its R rating, but I still highly recommend it to anyone over 13.
