Pros:Decent Special Effects. It's a movie about a killer scarecrow!
Cons:bad acting, low budget sometimes shows.
The Bottom Line: A low budget film with some decent special effects, but little else.
Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
This is one of those movies that just sits on the shelf at the movie rental store. No one ever looks at it or even gives it the time of day. Day after day after day. Well, I walked into the store one day and realized, movies about scarecrows that come to life and kill people have feelings too, so I brought this movie home and popped it into the VCR.
The plot involves a warlock that came to a small town in the Midwest many years ago to open a bordello. Many townsfolk indulged but the others hated the warlock and banded together to kill him. Once they had done so, they put his bones in a coffin and buried them under a stone slab next to ... you guessed it, a scarecrow.
Now its present day and some drunk kids decide they want to have some fun with the farming tools. While driving through the cornfields, they run smack dab into that very same stone slab. It breaks open, and the warlock's soul is released. It jumps into ... you guessed it, a scarecrow. He seeks his bloody revenge and kills some people. There is a bigger plot, but I won't bore you with the details.
Here comes the hard part of the review: the recommendation. I was entertained by this film but it wasn't that great. I wasn't expecting anything when I rented it so I was pleasantly surprised. If someone reads this review and says, "This sounds like a cool movie" and goes to rent it, they may be disappointed. With that said, I can't recommend Night of the Scarecrow. However, it's a very high non-recommendation.
