Running commentary (Reply to this comment)
by OM-4
Great review, you know your stuff. What I'm curious about are the extras on DVD. I own the director's edition on Laserdisc. The running commentary by Rodriguez, Tarrantino and the FX guy is a blast. But what is most interesting to see as a bonus is the way Clooney blows his lines, take after take. You think the movie showed some major change in genre/story, wait till you see Clooney turn from aimable actor to sheer psychotic.
Just thought I needed to ad this to make the film even more enjoyable other than on video.

Jack,
Thanks for the comment.
I've noticed that this film tends to really divide genre fans--some of us really dig it, others of us really hate it...and as you pointed out, it's often for the exact same reasons.
I've always enjoyed the film--Clooney's great, Keitel's pretty good, Savini's and Fred Williamson are a hoot, and Salma...well, she's Salma, enough said.
I'm curious though, did you like Vampires? A lot of people who hated FDTD loved Vampires...but personally, I hated that one.
Thanks for the comments.

but I really disagree. That's cool though. I think I disliked it for a lot of the reasons you liked it, a comon thing in a lot of genre pictures. The one thing I liked was Clooney, my favorite actor, in a pretty mean role.

This movie is an absolute blast. I remember when I first saw the previews I couldn't help but think a little kid wrote the script. "Okay, so they all go into this bar in Mexico, and, uhhh, everyone turns into vampires!" Anyway, great review as always Mike.

You described this movie well. I absolutely love Tarantino's stuff (except for "Jackie Brown" - what was he thinking?).
And this is probably the only movie that I actually like George Clooney in. The tattoo was dope and I love the line "I'm an ***hole, but I'm not a f***ing ***hole"
Excellent as usual,
Tammy
