Ahhhhh, "Iria: Zeiram the Animation" would probably one of my all time favorite animes of all time. There are no Sailor Senshi, no over-muscular Super Saiyan, nor are there overly cutesy Pikachus.
STORYLINE: Iria, a young girl from Myce is willing to become a bounty hunter like her older brother. She gets criticize for being a girl who wears hair-beads and uses weapons (first non-earthling feminist?). Iria then loses her brother and her assistant Bob on the Karma spaceship and has to try to stop Zeiram, a rather nasty bio-mechanical creature; thus, begin's Iria's journey.
Okay, I'll be nice and not spoil anything for you guys, but it's basically the backstory of Iria from "Zeiram 1&2" and tells us how she gotten so far.
CHARACTERS: Iria rocks! She is a much better role model for girl otakus than Sailor Moon or any of those ditsy, trashy looking blondes. Iria is smart, nimble, does what she believes is right and can whip you to next sunday. Okay, even though there is a little bit of nudity, but that is not the main focus of the anime. But it proves a point that girls don't have to be ditsy and overly giddy to be sucessful. That's really nice, I wish American cartoonists and movie makers could come this far.
ANIMATION: Very crisp and fast paced. You also get to see a lot of Sino-Japanese and East Indian imagery in "Iria" as well. Consitering that this was made in 1993, the animation does look rather great.
SOUNDTRACK: Though not as good as the live-action movies, it still is rather good. Love the opening and closing theme song.
FUN FACTOR: Kick back, relax and enjoy!
OVERALL: "Iria: Zeiram the Animation" is a rather well done and refreshing anime. Too bad alot of new anime cannot be like this!
